About the Club

Downpatrick and District Anglers Association Limited

Downpatrick and District Anglers Association were founded as a fly fishing club in 1954 and the very early objects of the club were ‘to provide good fly fishing and the improvement and preservation of angling waters’. The Association leased their first lake from the Finnebrogue Estate and shortly afterwards acquired Magheralagan Lake.

Ever seeking to improve their facilities, the Forde Estate was approached and agreed to lease Loughinisland Lake to the Club. Following many successful years of stewardship and careful management, the club acquired Loughinisland Lake in 1996.

The present boathouse was built in 1998. This facility provided the Club with the capability to securely house 8 Club boats for its members, car parking for angler’s vehicles and the roadways were also improved.

In early 2014, the Club sought to strengthen and provide future protection of the Downpatrick and District Anglers Association, their Trustees, Committee and its membership by applying for a Limited Company status. The Committee were mandated by the membership to pursue this objective and in October 2014, 60 years after their first inception, the Club were granted Private Limited Company status. The new Company was launched in January 2015 and will be known as: Downpatrick and District Anglers Association Limited.

Improvements 2020/2022

Current members will have noticed but for those new members/guests here are some of the improvements/additions that have been added over the past few seasons.

A new shelter from the elements has been constructed "Bluebell Lodge" at the narrows on the graveyard side. A grand spot for shelter or even to tie up to the jetty on a good day to enjoy your sandwich and a cuppa.

We now have enhanced lighting both inside and outside the Boathouse for those of us who fish late at night or early mornings.

Our storage container has been moved to the end of our newly constructed Car Park beyond the Boathouse which means less of a walk to the boats.

The concrete offloading space in front of the boathouse has been completed and the building of a new concrete slipway is in progress.
